Israel Joffe

Built diamonds.forsale because the jewelry industry runs on a 200% markup, a fake-discount calendar, and a lock-in trade-in policy nobody outside it can stomach.

Why a diamond marketplace

Diamonds are one of the most opaque retail categories in the United States. The same stone, GIA-certified to identical specs, can sell for $4,000 in a mall jewelry store and $1,800 from a private seller. That spread isn’t value — it’s leverage. The retailer is leveraging your unfamiliarity with carat-color-clarity-cut, your discomfort haggling on a sentimental purchase, and a sales calendar that pretends every Tuesday is a closeout.

Israel Joffe built diamonds.forsale as a deliberate counter to that. It’s a Craigslist-style listing layer for diamonds and fine jewelry, run by a former NYC firefighter (Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, served through Hurricane Sandy until injuries forced an exit) who has now spent a decade watching the inheritance, divorce-resale, and engagement-ring secondary markets get fleeced by the same handful of pawn-shop chains.

On diamonds.forsale, sellers list direct. Buyers see GIA/IGI/EGL certificate numbers up front. Both sides see the same 4Cs explainer, the same realistic price calculator, the same blunt guidance on what pawn shops actually pay — usually 20–35% of retail, sometimes lower. The site doesn’t take commission and doesn’t broker the sale.

The audience

diamonds.forsale is built for three groups. People selling an inherited piece who don’t want to walk into a pawn shop. People resetting after a divorce who don’t want to take 25 cents on the dollar. People who actually want to buy a real engagement ring and don’t want to start the relationship with a 200% retail markup. The site teaches enough math — diamond shape, carat, color, clarity, cut, lab-grown vs natural — that a buyer can walk into any shop with their numbers ready.

About Israel Joffe

Israel Joffe was born and raised in New York City, served as a firefighter for the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department through Hurricane Sandy, and moved to Washington DC in 2016 before settling in the Palm Beach area in 2021. He runs a portfolio of niche web properties from a home office in Boca Raton, Florida — covering shared mobility (scooter.exchange), gambling math (placebets.ai), home security (hiddencameras.tv), and other consumer verticals where the existing top-of-funnel is bloated and affiliate-corrupted.
