The Las Vegas diamond market
Las Vegas has a unique diamond market driven by the luxury retail scene on the Strip and the Wholesale Jewelry District near the airport. The city's tourist economy means some buyers offer lower prices to visitors, but local jewelers pay fair rates. Expect 25-40% of retail for certified stones.
Before you sell: 5 rules
- Get an estimate first. Use our calculator to know the floor and ceiling before any conversation.
- Bring your GIA / IGI report. No certificate? Buyers will discount 10-25% because they can't verify the stone.
- Get at least 3 written offers. Las Vegas dealers know each other and will price-match the best honest offer.
- Decline trade-credit offers. Cash only. Trade-credit is worth ~50¢ on the dollar to you.
- Check licensing. Most states require secondhand diamond dealers to be licensed. Ask to see their license.
Tips for selling in Las Vegas
The Strip has high-end jewelers who buy diamonds — good for large, certified stones.
The Wholesale Jewelry District near the airport has more competitive prices.
Las Vegas buyers are accustomed to high-value transactions — they know their market.
Avoid selling to pawn shops on Fremont Street — they pay the lowest prices in the city.
